The Second Vatican Document Lumen Gentium tells us that, “every layperson in virtue of the very gifts bestowed upon them is, at the same time, a witness and a living instrument of the mission of the Church.” In short, because of our baptism, we are all called to be committed disciples of Christ and to use our gifts – our time, talents and treasure – for the greater glory of God.
On this great Solemnity of Pentecost, let us reflect on our gifts and talents and how we can use them to build up our parish community. We may want to reflect upon:
- What gifts or talents has God given me?
- How can I use these talents to build up the community in a helpful and useful way?
- What is holding me back from sharing my gifts or talents?
