4th SUNDAY OF ADVENT 2021 Newsletter
The Opening Prayer from this weekend’s Mass is probably one of the most well-known of all the Opening Prayers prayed during Mass. The Opening Prayer this weekend is also the prayer said at the end of the Angelus.
If you have not prayed the Angelus for a while, or if it is a new prayer in your spiritual armoury, here it is:
V/ The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary
R/ And she conceived by the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary…
V/ Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
R/ Be it done unto me according to thy Word.
Hail Mary…
V/ The Word was made flesh.
R/ And dwelt amongst us.
Hail Mary…
V/ Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray:
Pour forth, we beseech You, O Lord,
Your Grace into our hearts;
that as we have known the incarnation of Christ,
your Son by the message of an angel,
so by His passion and cross
we may be brought to the glory of His Resurrection.
Through the same Christ, our Lord.
Amen.
We pray the Christmas Novena as we prepare for the coming of our Lord on Christmas! As we reflect on His birth, we will also pray for a greater respect for the dignity of human life everywhere.
“A great prayer for life is urgently needed, a prayer which will rise up throughout the world…Let us…discover anew the humility and courage to pray and fast so that power from on high will break down the walls of lies and deceit: the walls which conceal from the sight of so many of our brothers and sisters the evil of practices and laws which are hostile to life. May this same power turn their hearts to resolutions and goals inspired by the civilization of life and love.”
St. John Paul II
This novena is built around what we usually refer to as the Great Antiphons of Advent, a series of scriptural titles addressed to Christ, the newborn king and the titles given to Christ in Luke’s account of the Annunciation. Together they seem to sum up our Advent longing for Jesus Christ, our Saviour.
Novena Days:
16th December: Jesus, the Wisdom of God
17th December: Jesus, Lord and Ruler of all
18th December: Jesus, Root of Jesse
19th December: Jesus, Key of David
20th December: Jesus, Dawn of the East
21st December: Jesus, King of the Gentiles
22nd December: Jesus, Emmanuel
23rd December: Jesus, Son of the Most High
24th December: Jesus, Son of God
