Fr. Daniel’s homily for this weekend is now available to watch again on the parish YouTube channel:
At the end of Mass on the Solemnity of the Baptism of the Lord, parishioner Malcolm Williams was recognised by Archbishop George Stack for his contribution to the life of the parish and the wider diocese, and awarded the Diocesan Medal.
Malcolm has contributed greatly to the spiritual development of the parish. In 1990, he took over as Choir Master of the St. David’s Parish choir. This same choir still exists today, enhancing the liturgical celebrations for the St. David’s community. In a wider context, he has also served in roles which have facilitated the running of the parish, including the Parish Advisory Council for many years, and, lately, The Parish Building Committee for the last ten years or so.
Congratulations to you, Malcolm!

Fr. Daniel’s homily for the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord is now available to watch again on the parish YouTube channel:
Pope Francis during the Epiphany Mass
During Mass for the Solemnity of the Epiphany, Pope Francis reflected upon the “climactic moment” of the Magi at the end of their journey: “they fell down and worshiped the Child”. The Holy Father reflects:
They worshiped. Let us we never forget this: the journey of faith finds renewed strength and fulfilment only when it is made in the presence of God. Only if we recover our “taste” for adoration will our desire be rekindled. Desire leads us to adoration and adoration renews our desire. For our desire for God can only grow when we place ourselves in his presence. For Jesus alone heals our desires. From what? From the tyranny of needs. Indeed, our hearts grow sickly whenever our desires coincide merely with our needs. God, on the other hand, elevates our desires; he purifies them and heals them of selfishness, opening them to love for him and for our brothers and sisters. This is why we should not neglect adoration, that prayer of silent adoration which is not so common among us. Please let us not forget adoration.
There are several opportunities to Adore the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament here in the parish throughout the week:
Tuesdays – 10:30am until 11:30am at St. David’s Church, Pontnewydd
Fridays – 10:30am until 12:00pm at Our Lady’s Church, Old Cwmbran
Saturdays – 10:30am until 11:45am at Our Lady’s Church, Old Cwmbran

2nd Sunday of Christmas 2022 Newsletter
In 2019, the Holy Father issued an Apostolic Letter on the meaning and importance of the nativity scene. Entitled ‘Admirabile signum’ the Letter refers to the “enchanting image” of the Christmas scene, one that “never ceases to arouse amazement and wonder”. The Holy Father says:
“The depiction of Jesus’ birth is itself a simple and joyful proclamation of the mystery of the Incarnation of the Son of God”.
The full text of the letter can be downloaded here.
Pope Francis has written to married couples for the ‘Amoris Laetitia Family’ Year. The Holy Father writes:
Families have always been in my thoughts and prayers, but especially so during the pandemic, which has severely tested everyone, especially the most vulnerable among us. The present situation has made me want to accompany with humility, affection and openness each individual, married couple and family in all those situations in which you find yourselves.
